The theme I have been interested in for a long time is landscapes.

That is why the titles of my works are mostly Landscape or Remembrance.

These landscapes are not the landscapes as they are seen through eyes; they are inner landscapes.

The numerous events and landscapes I have encountered throughout my life, the outer world and the inner world,

all the memories of the conscious world and the unconscious world.

Just like DNA that has been handed down for so long without even being realized,

I release the images of instinctual unconsciousness and the memories of consciousness that my body remembers on the screen.

Thus, not only concrete images but also abstract images of emotions that are not specific overlap many times.

I usually work on paper with a mix of drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques.

I first draw with pencil, ink, or paint, and then cover it with another color

or print it with a textured plate, and then scrape if off or strip it with sandpaper,

and repeat the process over and over to make layers,

overlaying many colors and images again and again.

Like how our memory is a continuation of today's image on top of the afterimages of the past,

in my work, an image is covered by many other images,

and many colors are overlapped, so like a multi-exposure picture,

only the unrecognizable monotonal hues and lines are left out, or sometimes many colors and lines are left out in a disorderly manner.

Symbolic images and countlessly intertwined lines that are left on the screens of works are like seeds of life; the unconscious memories that are inherited from ancestors like DNA,

and the memories of consciousness are sometimes clearly and sometimes unclearly expressed.

As if listing a diary of a life of hope and sorrow, joy and pain, love and despair and desire and frustration that are imprinted in our souls,

I record abstract landscapes of consciousness and unconsciousness.

작업노트

내가 오랜기간동안 관심을 갖고 표현하는 주제는 풍경들이다. 

그래서 나의 작업들의 제목은 대부분이 풍경(Landscape) 이거나 회상(Remembrance)이다.

그 풍경들은 눈에 보이는 그대로의 풍경이 아니라 내면의 풍경들이다.

살아오면서 만난 수많은 일들과 풍경들, 외부세계와 내면의 세계, 

의식의 세계와 무의식의 세계의 그 모든 기억들

인식하지도 못하지만 아주 오래전부터 전해 내려오는 DNA처럼

본능적인 무의식의 이미지들과 몸이 기억하는 의식의 기억들을 화면에서 풀어본다.

그레서 화면에는 구체적인 이미지뿐만이아니라

구체적이지 않은 추상적인 감정의 이미지들이 수없이 겹쳐지기도 한다.

나는 주로 종이위에 드로잉과 페인팅과 판화기법이 섞인 작업들을 한다

연필이나 먹, 물감 등으로 그리고 그위에 다시 다른 색으로 덮거나

텍스츄어가 았는 판으로 찍은후 긁어내거나 사포로 벗겨내고

그 과정을 다시 여러번 반복해서 층을 만들어가며

많은 색들과 많은 이미지들을 겹치고 또 겹친다.

우리의 기억이 지난날들의 잔상위에 오늘의 상이 겹쳐지는 연속인것처럼

내 작업에서도 한가지 이미지위에 다른 수많은 이미지가 겹쳐지고

많은 칼라가 겹쳐져서 마치 다중노출한 사진처럼 결국엔 형태도 알아볼수 없는

모노톤의 색조와 선들만 남기도하고 때로는 많은색과 선들이 어지럽게 남겨지기도 한다.

작업들의 화면위에 남겨진 기호같은 이미지들이나 수없이 얽히고 얽힌 선들은

생명의 씨앗이거나  마치 DNA 처럼 조상으로부터 유전되어오는 무의식의 기억들

그리고 의식의 기억들이  때로는 확연하게 때로는 불분명하게 표현되곤한다.

마치 우리들의 영혼속에 각인되어진 희망과 슬픔, 기쁨과 고통,

사랑과 절망과 욕망과 좌절의 삶의 일기를 나열하는

의식과 무의식의 추상적인 풍경화를 기록해본다.
